TATANKA SKA TRACE PHASE V
The DCTB is starting plans to go east towards Superior with $672,000 in federal funding already secured for Phase V of the rail trail. In the meantime, we started tree clearing and minor grading over the winter of 2024-2025. This will open the trail ahead of time for pedestrians, mountain biking and fat tire biking as well as prepare the corridor for future development.
IOWA GREAT LAKES CONNECTION TRAIL

The Clay County Connection is part of the 135-mile Iowa Great Lakes Connection that will link several lakes in the northwest part of the state. Several existing shared-use paths will also be connected to the Iowa Great Lakes Trails including the Sauk Rail Trail in Carroll and Sac Counties, Storm Lake Trails in Buena Vista County and Spencer Trails in Clay County. To date, Phases I-III have been awarded nearly $1.8 million in federal, state and foundation grants.
Phase I (1.5 miles) and Phase II (2.0 miles) are planned for construction in 2025. The final one mile segment of Phase III is planned for construction in 2026.
LAKES ART CENTER LOOP
The DCTB is partnering with the Pearson Lakes Art Center to develop a connecting loop around the wetland on the north side of the art center. Plans for the project include art sculptures and interactive pieces for families to enjoy together. The trail will be a destination point with the goal of sharing the joy of art, nature and outdoor recreation all in one place.
Construction started in early May and is scheduled to be complete by June 27, 2025.
WEST OKOBOJI CONNECTION
