“TERRIL GRAVEL RIDE” … WE ARE BACK!!
Saturday July 31st 2021
In conjunction with the Terril Quasquicentennial (125 years +1) we are dedicating our annual gravel ride to commemorate 125+1 years of Terril’s existence. To do so we will hold a bicycle ride/race with a distance of 125+1 miles—NO! That’s too dang far! Let’s go 125 +1 kilometers (77.671 now 78 miles). I am sure the first settlers figured we would be on the metric system by now anyway!
We will have shorter routes also -10 and 25 miles.
The routes will be a mix of gravel, dirt, grass, and regrettably some short stretches of pavement. The actual routes will not be announced till the week before the ride.
The first place finisher of the 125+1 k (78 mile) route will receive a $200.00 check made out to a qualifying charity of your choice. The first place finisher of the 25 mile route will get a charity check for $100.00. The 10 mile route a $50.00 charity check. Other prizes will be announced later.
If you’re not into speed, just come along for a nice ride through the countryside on a road less traveled. We expect no problems maintaining social distancing as we have been practicing this since we began the ride years ago. At several points along the route you will be very near the Iowa Great Lakes. Even though the lakes are a major tourist area, you will be shocked at how little traffic there is on the roads we will be pedaling on.
All participants who pay the $30.00 registration fee will receive a Super Cool Gravel bike Medallion.
